SUMMARY:Podcast: Medicare for All with National Nurses Union
DESCRIPTION:The Labor-Community Alliance of South Florida together with the National Nurses Union (NNU) is sponsoring a Zoom podcast regarding Medicare for All. Maria Torres-Lopez from NNU will do a brief presentation about the most salient points of Medicare for All and then open the floor for questions and brief comments. All in a relaxed atmosphere. \nMedicare for All/Medicare para Todos \nAstronomical health care costs and lack of access continue to drive individuals\, families\, and businesses past their breaking point while insurance companies continue to soak-up billions of health care dollars. Medicare has provided guaranteed health care for millions of seniors for more than 51 years. It’s time we have a Medicare for All\, single-payer health care system that would end health disparities\, effectively control costs\, and assure that everyone has equal access to an excellent standard of care. \nMeeting Details: \nTuesday\, April 22\, 2025 \n8:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time \nJoin Zoom Meeting\nhttps://us02web.zoom.us/j/87983672715?pwd=tWjocux5bOVIOr89Mh57UYjlbj5EiS.1 \nMeeting ID: 879 8367 2715\nPasscode: 081812

SUMMARY:National Day of Action Miami
DESCRIPTION:🚨 This isn’t just a protest—it’s a full-scale mobilization. They want us silent? We’re showing up with pots\, pans\, and purpose. \nSaturday\, April 19 | 10AM–1PM | Torch of Friendship\, Miami \nWe’re taking a stand—on immigration\, education\, climate change\, veterans’ rights\, and national security—because this administration has betrayed us on all fronts. \nSpeakers + Action Stations:\n • Karla Hernandez-Mats of UTD will speak out on behalf of our schools. UTD will also be on-site to support teachers\, parents\, and students.\n • Indivisible Miami Action Team will help you start organizing in your own backyard—because change begins at the block level.\n • 50501 Florida is setting up a mobile call center—with scripts and info ready—so we can flood our Congressman’s office with calls. Just show up\, sit down\, and dial in.\n • @Moms4Libros and @ehrforce will be registering voters\, enrolling folks in VBM\, and recruiting poll watchers to defend democracy at the ballot box. \nBring your voice. Bring your sign. Bring the noise.\nThis land is OUR land. And we’re not going anywhere.

SUMMARY:Hands Off Mass Mobilization
DESCRIPTION:Donald Trump and Elon Musk think this country belongs to them. Miami is fighting back! \nThey’re taking everything they can get their hands on—our health care\, our data\, our jobs\, our services—and daring the world to stop them. This is a crisis\, and the time to act is now. \n🚨 On Saturday\, April 5th\, we’re taking to the streets to fight back with a clear message: Hands off! 🚨 \n📍 Where: Torch of Friendship 📅 When: Noon April 5\, 2025 \nThis mass mobilization day is our message to the world that we do not consent to the destruction of our government and our economy for the benefit of Trump and his billionaire allies. Alongside Americans across the country\, we are marching\, rallying\, and protesting to demand a stop the chaos and build an opposition movement against the looting of our country. \nA core principle behind all Hands Off! events is a commitment to nonviolent action. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values. \nCheck out handsoff2025.com for more information.

SUMMARY:National Day of Economic Resistance
DESCRIPTION:February 28\, 2025 – National Day of Economic Resistance\n By Lorenzo Canizares\n2/8/25 \nFebruary 28th Day of Economic Resistance. Don’t buy anything on that date. Do it for your family. Do it for yourself. Do it for the American people. We still have an opportunity to save this nation from falling off the cliff unto the darkness of fascism. \nThere are 350 million of us and even if just a quarter follow the call to withhold our buying power\, the blow to the Greed Addicts that are driving this wonderful nation into fascism will be a powerful blow to that Greed Machine leading the charge. \nIf only a quarter of us refuse to buy on February 28th it will be a powerful blow\, imagine what will happen if three-quarters of us do it. It will be a devastating blow. The Greed Machine believe that they could do whatever they want because we are too stupid and afraid to fight back. They believe they can continue to raise our rents by $500 per month as they have done to numerous people in Miami and many places across the nation. \nAfter February 28 hopefully the Greed Machine will think twice about raising food prices as they have done while making enormous amounts of profits. Let’s hope they’ll think twice about spending almost a trillion dollars in the military while cutting programs that benefit the vast majority of the people. Healthcare is a Human Right for all economically developed nations in the world except here. We need this National Day of Economic Resistance to make sure that the American people are respected and the destruction of all the good things this nation has achieved are not thrown into the trashcan. \nThe closing of the Departments of Labor and Education point to a downsizing of the living and educational standards of the American people. The Department of Labor is supposedly to operate as a safeguard of the rights of working people and even if we criticize it for not doing enough\, the little good they do will be wiped away as the Greed Machine tries to maximize profits. \nThe Department of Education will continue the march through the nation to privatize education. You just need to look to countries where education is mainly conducted through private schools\, and granted the education provided by private schools is usually good\, but that only goes for the children of the families that could afford private schools. Public schools\, in those nations\, are a disaster because the funding is minimal and places that are difficult to get to\, like rural areas\, the schools are almost nonexistent. \nFriday\, February 28th will provide the American people a chance to give a wake-up call to those that have come together as members of the Greed Machine to exploit the American people to the maximum to mend their ways and Make America Great Again by going back to the social contract that was achieved through The New Deal. \nTime is running out to save this great nation. February 28 provides a chance to deliver the message. Let’s hope one message will be enough.

SUMMARY:A dialogue on systemic manifestation of racial superiority: SUPREMACISM
DESCRIPTION:(Miami/Broward) – The Labor Community Alliance presents its Third educational panels for the year 2021\, online via Zoom on June 24\, 2021 at 7 pm. The topic addressed will be\, “What does it mean to be a Progressive?” The purpose of the Forum is to have a dialogue on systemic manifestation of racial superiority: Supremacism. begin to dispel misconceptions and myths about what the word progressive really means. This dialogue will do a deep dive into the effects of racism and racial superiority from a socio-economic perspective and hone in on ways to establish equitable practices to “bridge the gap” in measurable ways. \n  \nThe panel is composed of a diverse group of knowledgeable people who can offer their particular view on the subject. Esteemed panelists include Lorenzo Canizares who is a retired labor/community organizer that worked 40 years in the Northeast. His last stop was for 12 years with the Pennsylvania State Education Association. Mr. Canizares moved back to Miami in 2013. Became Facilitator to Awake Miami\, a few months after arriving in Miami. Currently he serves as Co-Coordinator of the Labor-Community Alliance of South Florida (LCA). \nWinnie Tang\, serves the Chinese\, Asian and the community-at-large in South Florida and beyond\, with various leadership roles. Her greatest achievements and contributions have been her volunteerism and non-profit work with ethics.
