There could be Peace in the Middle East if the USA wants it to be

It all points out to Israel putting a major effort to guarantee its territorial expansion and keep it with world’s approval, at least to get the approval of the countries that count with them – the former colonizers. Khury Petersen-Smith in an article in Truthout 1/2/25 says “2024 Will Be Remembered as the Year Israel’s Global Legitimacy Fully Unraveled,” Mr. Petersen-Smith states “The fact is that Israel’s legitimacy in the eyes of the world — especially among the public of its primary patron, the U.S. — is critical for the state to carry out its plans in Gaza, the occupied West Bank, Lebanon, and beyond.”
Israel’s legitimacy has taken a major hit by carrying out a genocide in plain sight. The genocide has minimized the ability of Zionist sympathizers to be outward in their support. Israel has been forced to dedicate a multimillion-dollar budget for its ministry of Strategic Affairs, which is tasked with buttressing Israel’s image. Many people, like myself, that a few years ago had bought to the idea of a two-state solution are now questioning Israel’s right to exist. You didn’t have to be a Zionist to buy into the story of these persecuted people that needed a land of their own. And since they claimed ancestral rights…But the genocide has debunked all those claims, and it has made very clear that Israel is a murdering occupier with a goal of ethnically cleansing with the dual purpose of expanding the territory of Greater Israel and opening the newly conquered territory to Western financial profit.
Today, many people question how a Palestinian state could coexist side-by-side with a Zionist state that has gone haywire and is unable to follow international law, with an unlimited appetite for territorial expansion, as the United Nations Special Rapporteur Francesca Albanese has said regarding the need to stop Israel from doing to other adjacent nations the same devastation that they have caused in Gaza, Lebanon and now in Syria. Albanese says if Israel is not stopped, they won’t stop. And I wholeheartedly agree. For example, just today (1/27/25) in the front page of the New York Times we have that “Trump presses to ‘clean out’ the Gaza Strip and Mideast allies are urged to take in Palestinians.” And another front-page article says, “Truces see test as Israel is said to have killed 22 then follows with “Talks Make Progress”. Palestinians’ lives are inconsequential as progress still being made in securing Israel’s territorial expansion.
A ceasefire has been negotiated in Lebanon and in Gaza. In both cases there has been no intention by Israel from their inception to obey either ceasefire in its entirety. International law and treaty agreements are for Israel to ignore but for others to obey. Consequently, Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant both are wanted by the International Criminal Court (ICC) for alleged war crimes committed during Israel’s 16 months war on Gaza including using starvation as a method of warfare; deliberately attacking civilians; murder; and persecution. It would be hard to believe that with Israel’s current leadership a two-state solution could succeed.
President Trump and the Trump family have major monetary interest in the region. The President is very proud of having negotiated the Abraham Accords, a US-brokered agreement that normalized Israel’s relations with several Arab countries, including the United Arab Emirates. But the Big Fish, Saudi Arabia, hasn’t signed yet. President Trump, after his inauguration, said “I think Saudi Arabia will end up being in the Abraham Accords soon. Not a very long way,” Trump told reporters at the Oval Office while signing several executive orders on his inauguration day. Trump’s financial interest in the region needs peace to be able to flourish.
Saudi Arabia, who was supposedly seriously considering signing the Accords, pulled back from doing so by the eruption of the Gaza War in October 2023. The Saudis have stated that they would not recognize Israel without a Palestinian state. A most difficult task to accomplish considering that Israel has shown no interest whatsoever in negotiating a two-state solution, simply because Israel is really interested in expanding its territory towards the creation of Greater Israel after gobbling all the adjacent occupied territories.
Obviously, for a just peace in the Middle East where the human rights and territorial integrity of the Palestinian people are respected, the world can’t count on the United States to be of assistance. A few days ago, I was watching a TikTok video of Codepink’s Medea Benjamin challenging Texas right-wing Senator Ted Cruz about the access of international journalists to Gaza and his refusal to engage in a conversation on the issue. Senator Cruz, an extreme right-winger in almost all of his political positions, is unable to criticize or comment negatively on what Israel is doing in Gaza because this is exactly what people like him would like to be doing in the USA to the left, labor union militants, and racial minorities that keep pestering the white supremacist establishment with demands like reparations for the 1919 Tulsa massacre.
Certainly, there could be peace in the Middle East if the United States want it to be so. We talk about a rules-based international order while providing billions of dollars in weapons to Israel to fight a militia with no regular army, no airplanes, no navy, no anti-aircraft weapons, etc. Talk about wasting money! Western Civilization is showing in the Middle East that the King has no clothes. Trump’s excessive bullying throughout the world is defying the limits of credibility. Now that the world is realizing the emperor has no clothes some are beginning to laugh at what they see. The world can’t count on the USA to be an agent of peace.
