Revolutionary socialist and former Seattle City Councilmember Kshama Sawant is running as an independent antiwar pro-worker candidate for Congress.

Kshama’s campaign is fighting for free healthcare for all funded by taxing the rich, national rent control, a massive expansion of publicly owned housing, and a national $25/hour minimum wage. She is also fighting to shut down ICE and the detention centers, stop the deportations, permanently end all U.S. military aid to Israel, and to put a stop to the hundreds of billions of dollars being spent by the U.S. to fund wars around the world.

Kshama has an unparalleled track record of using her elected office to build fighting movements of working people and win victories once thought impossible. Her strategy of rejecting business-as-usual, unlike the approach of so many “progressive” Democrats, resulted in Kshama winning the first major-city $15/hour minimum wage that is now the nation’s highest minimum wage at $21.30. She defeated billionaires like Jeff Bezos and won the Amazon Tax that taxes big business and raises hundreds of millions of dollars annually to fund publicly-owned and rent-controlled affordable housing. By relentlessly organizing working people, Kshama won landmark renters’ rights, like the first-in-the-nation ban on winter evictions and economic evictions assistance to ensure tenants evicted due to rent increases of 10% or more are paid three months’ rent by their landlord. Kshama won much, much more, and it’s all because she went to war against the billionaire class and the Democrats, who (like the Republicans) represent the billionaires and are directly opposed to everything Kshama fought for and is now fighting to achieve.

Kshama has also founded Workers Strike Back, a nationwide organization that is carrying forward the fighting strategy used so successfully in Seattle.

Kshama will be speaking at the Labor-Community Alliance of South Florida event on March 17th to discuss her fighting, class-struggle approach, her historic campaign, and the need for a general strike to shut down ICE and stop the deportations. Electing the first revolutionary socialist to US Congress will be an absolutely massive fight against the bosses and both their parties. We need as many working people involved and the widest possible left solidarity to beat the bosses and make breakthroughs. If you agree with this, we encourage you to join the March 17th event, join Workers Strike Back, and get involved in Kshama’s campaign for Congress.
