“As We Prepare to Invade…”

by Lorenzo Canizares 11/19/25
There is still time. No inland shot has been fired on Venezuela yet. No doubt, President Trump is in a challenging historical moment. The United States finds itself in difficult times. The world’s hegemon for several decades has now, being recognized by many, especially outside of the Western world sphere of influence, as having lost dominance. The rise of China and the creation of BRICS+ have shattered the USA’s control of world affairs. But, don’t get me wrong, it’s not that the United States doesn’t continue to be a powerful force but the days when the USA told others to jump and others jumped are over.
Venezuela has the largest oil reserves in the world. Its oil reserves are an estimated 303 BILLION barrels, vastly surpassing other countries like Saudi Arabia and Iran, accounting for 17% of the world’s total oil reserves. Of course, this creates a major source of interest from those in the oil business that see Venezuela as a cash-cow. But Venezuela has also raised the interest of the anticommunist-socialist industry (ACSI) mainly centered in the very important electorally-speaking State of Florida. This ACSI has its man in Washington in the person of Secretary of State/National Security Adviser Marco Rubio.
The scuttlebutt in the nation’s capital is that President Trump and many others in his inner circle are not too keen about invading Venezuela, but Rubio and the oil magnates are pushing for an invasion. The excuse being used is to fight drugs reaching the United States. No matter that very little drugs passes into the United States through the Caribbean Sea as recognized by our own intelligence apparatus. The main drug killing our citizens is Fentanyl and it mainly arrives to our shores through the Pacific.
But the oil magnates and the anticommunist-socialist crusade have very powerful friends. One of their main arguments is that the USA can still maintain its hegemony in the world if we place people in power, on those pesky countries clamoring for national sovereignty, that will welcome our hegemony as they also will benefit from their alliance with us. They have been painting a picture reminiscent of the Iraq experience. Remember when the American people were being told that we will be received with flowers as we liberated them from the dictator Saddam Hussein? Now, invading Venezuela is going to be a walk in the park.
Well, Venezuela is twice the size of Iraq and is full of jungles. Perfect terrain for advanced guerrilla warfare. Plus let’s not forget all the friendship and mutual support treaties that Venezuela has with Russia, China and Iran. Venezuela is not Gaza. I wouldn’t be surprised that if we start a war with Venezuela our prized naval aircraft carrier the Gerald Ford is sunk. Does Venezuela have the weaponry to be able to achieve such a feat? I don’t know. I am not a military expert, but the Russians and the Chinese are nobody’s fools and clearly understand the geopolitical importance of keeping Venezuela sovereign. And, maybe as important, Venezuela has the support of most Latin-American countries, even from some who are not leftist, that don’t particularly look forward to going back to the years of Yankee abuse and domination of Latin America.
For some unknown reason to me, many people in the United States see Maduro as a foolish rogue individual. It could be because the guy doesn’t have the refined manners expected of a leader of a nation of such importance. True, the guy was a bus-driver, but many Americans, especially in the left, talk about working class leadership and now that we see it, we reject, because the guy is not polished enough for our taste.
Maduro has a bounty of $50 million on his head. We have done all kinds of provocation looking for a reaction so we can do a Gaza on Venezuela. We have killed over 80 people navigating in little motorboats acting as judge, jury and executioner. We haven’t yet proven that any of the eighties killed are drug smugglers. The few people that have been identified as dead are all fishermen. And still Maduro wants peace. He has said he is willing to sit down face-to-face with Trump to discuss a way out of this problem.
In the meantime, as Sharon Zhang in a Truthout article 11/18/25 titled “Democrats Move to Block Trump’s ‘Wildly Disproportionate’ Boat Strike Operation” states that Democrats have introduced a War Powers Resolution meant for Congress to reassert power over military actions. The legislation was introduced by Representatives Gregory Meeks (New York), Adam Smith (Washington), Jim Himes (Connecticut), Bennie Thompson (Mississippi), and Jason Crow (Colorado) and Ilhan Omar (Minnesota). The lawmakers pointed out that the administration has not provided evidence or rationale showing why it’s necessary to strike and kill people they accuse, without evidence, of being “narco-terrorists,” rather than intercepting and questioning them under the typical legal process.
The invasion hasn’t happened yet. There are events happening all across the nation trying to stop this act of greed and racial hatred. Many European countries, like the UK, France and Spain have asked Trump to negotiate. And I can’t conclude this essay without mentioning what Medea Benjamin and Nicolas Davies mentioned in a recent article in Venezuelanalysis 11/13/25 “’Regime Change’ in Venezuela Is a Euphemism for US-Inflicted Carnage” that Trump’s appointment of Marco Rubio as Secretary of State and National Security Advisor was an incendiary choice for Latin America. Brazilian President Lula made that clear when he met Trump in Malaysia at the ASEAN conference, saying “There will be no advances in negotiations with the United States if Marco Rubio is part of the team.”
President Trump for the sake of the American people, listen to those in your inner-circle seeking peace, and push to the side those toxic individuals seeking a war that will end up destroying our nation.
