Today, I became aware of a letter written by Florida’s Republican Senator Rick Scott and New York State Democratic Congresswoman Elise Stefanik chastising the leaders of Australia, Canada, France and the United Kingdom for recognizing the Palestinian state. They claim to be representing a bipartisan sentiment of the United States legislature regarding opposition to the two-state solution. This is bogus.
First, through several successive previous United States administrations the idea of the two-state solution has been parroted as the optimum solution for the Israeli-Palestinian conflict but when the reality of a possible two-state solution is finally on the table, the current United States government balks and votes against it. For those of us that have been following the Middle East conflict this should be no surprise. For the longest time Netanyahu has made very clear his opposition to the two-state solution.
Second, it is no secret that it’s almost impossible that Netanyahu was not aware of the Hamas preparations for the 10/7/23 attack. The many “coincidences” that had to happen for the attack to be successful all happened. The dream of the extreme right-wing Zionists of a greater Israel couldn’t be accomplished without having a surgical excision of the Arab and Palestinian populations as described by Netanyahu in his “The Curse and the Blessing” presentation at the United Nations at last year’s General Assembly meeting.
Third, what Scott and Stefanik also willfully overlook is the history of the Two-State solution negotiations. They claim that there has been no serious attempt to negotiate. They overlook the fact that an agreement was reached with Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin in 1995 that was not implemented due to Rabin’s assassination in 1995 by an extreme right-wing Zionist.
In the letter to the four above mentioned country leaders, Scott and Stefanik, state “if they proceed with recognition it will put your country at odds with long-standing U.S. policy and interests and may invite punitive measures in response. Notice the not so-subtle threat directed at countries that not so-long-ago were considered to be allies.
The objective reality is that United States support for Israel’s genocide has led to worldwide repudiation of our policies and has led us to become the only obstacle to penalizing the State of Israel for its already recognized genocide. This isolation, like other misdeeds committed by our AIPAC controlled government, will eventually inflict much pain on the American people.
In a way, we should be grateful that Scott and Stefanik letter has been made public so we can see how gangster diplomacy is being executed against our allies under our name for the benefit of a genocidal state. And maybe, we can muster the courage to do something about it.
